“Over 7000 manuscripts kept in the Matenadaran have already been digitized. Meanwhile some 100.000 archival documents have been digitized as well,” Adviser to the Director for New Technological and Publishing Affairs Gurgen Gasparyan told panorama.am about this.

He noted that the archival documents are digitized based on the orders and demands.

“Sometimes we carry out on-demand digitization of manuscripts as well. The orders are received from Armenologists and researchers when they are engaged in the study of specific subjects,” he added.

In the words of G. Gasparyan 22.000 manuscripts are kept in Matenadaran and 1/3 of them have already been digitized.

“If we continue digitization works in the current rate, we will complete the digitization of the entire collection of manuscripts in 6-7 years,” he noted.

To note, the digitization works of the manuscripts launched in 2007-2008. In several years the Matenadaran has acquired new devices for digitization.

23 Kilometres, a film by Canadian Armenian filmmaker Noura Kevorkian about Parkinson's and aging that appeared in competitions in International festivals will have a special screening at the Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema in downtown Toronto on Thursday December 15.

As the Horizon Weekly reports it is a beautiful and moving "experienTIAL" film about what it's like to have Parkinson's as seen through the eyes of the director's father-a soulful man who suffered many years before succumbing to the disease.

There will be Parkinson's experts on hand to discuss the disease, and Noura will also be there to do a Q&A.

Kevorkian’s film starts with home video footage of Barkev’s last conversation before Parkinson’s took his power of speech away and it will be the last dialogue in this 78-minute film. Typically, as we will realise, he talks about the stars and the planets and their meaning in his life. It will transpire that amateur cosmologist Barkev was born to survivors of the Armenian genocide who had fled to the Karatina Camp in Beirut for shelter. He grew up in a shanty house with a tin roof, looking through the holes to the stars.

Canadian Armenian filmmaker Noura Kevorkian made her filmmaking debut with her first short documentary entitled VEILS UNCOVERED (Official Competition Amsterdam IDFA, Golden Sheaf Yorkton Film Festival) about lingerie and the veiled women of Damascus.

Open Road Films Production has bought the United States distribution rights to the much anticipated Armenian Genocide epic “The Promise.” Armenians Today (Hayern Aysor) reports about this referring to the post made by film producer Eric Esrailian on his Instagram page.

“Open Road Films Production has acquired the U.S. distribution rights for “The Promise” which is planned to be screened on 28 April 2017. We were keeping this news secret, but it is high time the world knew about this,” the film producer has noted.

Earlier during the interview conducted by Variety Eric Esrailian noted the film has issues regarding its distribution. The producer assumed that the issues are based on the film topic, as it scares away some distributors who have business interests in Turkey.

“The Promise” had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on 11 September. The film stars Oscar Issac, Academy Award winning actor Christian Bale, Charlotte Le Bon and Shohreh Aghdashloo.

We are summing up the 4th Aram Khachaturian International Festival with great satisfaction and good achievements. We had outstanding performances, a program, many renowned artists visited Armenia, Sergey Smbatyan, artistic director and principal conductor of the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia told a press conference on Thursday.

He noted that within the scope of the festival the artists perform works that are important for the cultural life of Armenia – be that chamber music, symphony, or program for children.
“Filled concert halls remain of vital importance along with the new music and the works by new composers to be performed,” Smbatyan said.

The conductor informed that the closing ceremony of the festival is due on December 10 with famous violist Hayk Kazazyan to play on the occasion of the event.

Smbatyan next reminded about the 20-th anniversary of world-renown painter Hovhannes Aivazovsky, suggesting the next festival to be closely linked to the works of the painter.
“It would be hard, yet we should present the greatest achievements of the art and values we have created,” Smbatyan explained.

He next emphasized the need for holding master classes within the frames of the festival, saying the festival has adopted a policy to encourage interest toward the classical music.

Smbatyan also welcomed the idea of creating an all-Armenian symphonic orchestra, saying he has been one of the advocates, though suggested to choose a ‘fair format’ for it.

“If the all-Armenian symphonic orchestra comprises only musician that have left Armenia during difficult years, the orchestra will not serve its mission. It should comprise talented Armenian musicians performing in different corners of the world. We should create the value to demonstrate our togetherness to the world. Music unites people of different generations from different continents irrespective of their ideological differences,” noted Smbatyan.

Sanahin Monastery is an Armenian monastery founded in the 10th century in the Lori Province of Armenia.

The name Sanahin literally translates from Armenian as "this one is older than that one", presumably representing a claim to having an older monastery than the neighbouring Haghpat Monastery. The two villages and their monasteries are similar in many ways, and lie in plain view of each other on a dissected plateau formation, separated by a deep "crack" formed by a small river flowing into the Debed river.

As with Haghpat, Sanahin is frequented by an increasing number of tourists, due to its recent inclusion on the itineraries of a great number of Armenian tour agencies, the beauty of its monastery complex matching that of Haghpat's. The complex belongs to the Armenian Apostolic Church with numerous khachkars (stones with elaborate engravings representing a cross) and bishop gravesites scattered throughout it.
