Over 7000 Matenadaran manuscripts digitized

Tuesday, 13 December 2016

“Over 7000 manuscripts kept in the Matenadaran have already been digitized. Meanwhile some 100.000 archival documents have been digitized as well,” Adviser to the Director for New Technological and Publishing Affairs Gurgen Gasparyan told panorama.am about this.

He noted that the archival documents are digitized based on the orders and demands.

“Sometimes we carry out on-demand digitization of manuscripts as well. The orders are received from Armenologists and researchers when they are engaged in the study of specific subjects,” he added.

In the words of G. Gasparyan 22.000 manuscripts are kept in Matenadaran and 1/3 of them have already been digitized.

“If we continue digitization works in the current rate, we will complete the digitization of the entire collection of manuscripts in 6-7 years,” he noted.

To note, the digitization works of the manuscripts launched in 2007-2008. In several years the Matenadaran has acquired new devices for digitization.
