Dr. Mamikon Aghasi Yeghunyan – Neurosurgeon, MD, PhD, Doctor of Science, and Professor at the Chair of Neurosurgery of the Yerevan State Medical University after Mkhitar Heratsi, Chief Neurosurgeon of the Republic of Armenia (2011-2014), Head of the Clinic of Neurology and Neurosurgery at the EREBOUNI MEDICAL CENTER, Honorable Medical Doctor of Armenia (highest healthcare award, according to the Decree of the President of Armenia, May 25, 2015).
Education and Training
Dr. Mamikon Yeghunyan graduated from the Therapeutic Faculty of the Yerevan Medical Institute (currently renamed to Yerevan State Medical University after Mkhitar Heratsi), in 1979. Later, Dr. Yeghunyan participated in various training programs on neurosurgery and modern treatment technologies in France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, other European and non-European countries.
Medical practice and relevant professional experience
Dr. Mamikon Yeghunyan started his medical practice as a neurosurgeon in the First Aid Hospital of Odessa city in 1980, later - since 1987, in the Institute of Neurosurgery, Kiev, Ukraine.
In 1988 Dr. Yeghunyan was invited to Gyumri to create and head a neurosurgery department in the city hospital. He stayed in Gyumri until 1995 and successfully coped with this important task.
Since 1988 Dr. Mamikion Yeghunyan is heading the Clinic of Neurology and Neurosurgery at the EREBOUNI MEDICAL CENTER. Meantime, he is a Professor at the Chair of Neurosurgery of the Yerevan State Medical University after Mkhitar Heratsi.

- Cerebrovascular disease (hemorrhagic, ischemic stroke, arterial aneurysm, arteriovenous malformation)
- Diseases of the brain with hydrocephalus syndrome

- Nerve plexus injury, nerve injury, spinal cord injury
- Craniocerebral injury, intracranial hematoma
- Trigeminal neuralgia
- Various injuries of the brain
- Traumatic hematoma
- Traumatic injuries of the brain and spinal cord
- Traumatic injuries of the bones of the skull and spine
- Traumatic injuries of peripheral nerves
- Tumor of the brain and spinal cord
- Diseases caused by degenerative changes of the spine: intervertebral hernias, spondylolisthesis, stenosis of vertebral canal and others
- Cerebrovascular diseases
- Aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations and carotid-cavernous fistula of the vessels of brain and spinal cord.

- Dr. Mamikon Yeghunyan was awarded with many other diplomas, certificates and honorable titles of the Ministry of Heakthcare of the Republic of Armenia, the Association of Neurosurgeons, and many other Armenian and international organizations.
- Dr. Mamikon Yeghunyan is a Nansen Prize winner.
Scientific activities
In 1987 Dr. Yeghunyan completed his PhD scientific thesis on “Early postoperative complication after the ablation of the acute intracranial hematoma”, in the Institute of Neurosurgery, Kiev, Ukraine. In 1998 he successfully defended another thesis on “Serious craniocerebral injury at children of different age-groups” for a degree of a doctor of Medical Sciences, Kiev, Ukraine.
Under the scientific mentoring of Dr. Mamikon Yeghunyan, two candidate’s theses were defended.
Publications
Dr. Mamikon Yeghunyan is the author of over 50 scientific works, a monograph on “Critical Craniocerebral Injury at Children” which later became a textbook for the students and young neurosurgeons.
